What man/woman would not want to be wise? or What woman/man wants to be a fool? The answer is simple: Nobody wants to be a fool!!
Being wise does not mean that you are a-know-it-all, being wise simply means you avoid evil and end up living longer than you would’ve if you were an idiot.
“The highway of the upright avoids evil; he who guards his way guards his life.” (Proverbs 16:17 NIV)
“Home among the wise” what does that mean? It means “Home among the living”. I would much rather be wise and alive than be an idiot and dead. All of it comes down to choices; the wise man/woman makes an informed choice while the idiot just goes with the flow, without having sufficient knowledge or understanding. ”He who guards his way guards his life”, what does that mean? Friend it means you who are familiar with where you are and where you would want to end up in life is wiser than the idiot who just goes with the flow of others. It means you who choose a good path over “I don’t know where I am going, but I’m on my way” is more likely to succeed in your endeavours and live a long good life.
Being at home among the wise is all about watching your own back and having your own best interest at heart, no it is not selfish; it is wise. Being wise means to keep your eyes open and to be well-informed about WHERE YOU ARE GOING. Friend, God gave you your own set of eyes and His intention with giving you your own personal set of eyes is for you to look out for yourself.
Friend, your own eyes means you must find your own way and you must guard your own life. Be wise in God’s eyes and use your own eyes for its intended purpose: look out for yourself and guard your life. You were not created to be a mere follower of others; you were created by God to find your own way and to succeed in all good things. God, your Creator did not limit you so do not allow yourself to be limited by others.
Part of being wise is to involve God, your Creator in all your plans. Whether you’re planning to live long (because who said a long life should not be part of your plans? God sure didn’t), get married, have children, be a successful businessman/ woman, achieve good grades, be a good parent, find a good job, husband, wife or run a country, it is always wise to involve your Creator, because He knows things that you don’t know and He wants you to succeed.
“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” (Proverbs 16:3 NIV)
It takes every grain of sand on the seashore to create a beautiful beach. No matter how small a grain, it still is a very important and significant part of something much bigger.
